Wyedean Rally Preview
The first round of the COMPETITION CAR INSURANCE WELSH NATIONAL RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP 2003, gets underway from Chepstow Racecourse on Saturday 8th February with the Wyedean Forest Rally.
While many competitors have yet to register for the series, initial response has been very encouraging.
Reigning Welsh National Champion, Mark Perrott was first to register for the 2003 series. Partnered again this year by Garry Mansell in the Escort World Rally Car, Mark will start from the number one position where the pair finished the 2002 event.
Aiming to challenge Perrott for the overall honours of the rally and championship, will be Andy Burton in his Peugeot Cosworth. Burton’s four wheel drive hybrid machine a very popular vehicle with spectators and competitors alike.
While the two wheel drive machinery will see Robin Bradbury at the wheel of his Escort, with Paul Wakeley alongside. Nathan Crewe will also return to the series driving his MG ZR.
The Group N showroom class will be a hotly contested battle with Daniel & Clive Dunbabin moving up into more powerful machinery after their 2002 206 Super Cup campaign. The Dunbabin’s will use a Subaru Impreza for 2003. Robert Dalziel will also aim to challenge for the class in his Impreza.
The Championship kicks off from Chepstow Racecourse at 8am on Saturday morning. The rally will host two spectator stages at the Racecourse, while the main bulk of competitive motoring will be held in the Forest of Dean, before returning to Chepstow for the mid afternoon finish.
