Stevens and Davies Wins!
This weekend saw the final round of the Mitsubishi Evo Challenge taking place on the Bulldog Rally based in Shrewsbury.
With Kevin Stevens regular co-driver taken ill before the start, former Mitsubishi Challenge winner Howard Davies stepped into the hotseat late on Friday night, but despite the late call up Kevin and Howard were immediately on the pace through the first group of stages.
As the crews entered first service, their Promax Motorsport prepared Lancer EVO 7 was running faultlessly and their Yokohama tyres were working perfectly in the muddy and icy conditions as over night temperatures had dropped to minus 3.
Over the next batch of stages Kevin continued with his battle for his second Challenge victory this year and hoped to off set a string of disappointing results during the middle of the year, which had prevented him from giving Championship leader Jeremy Easson a run for the overall title.
At the last main service halt of the Day, Kevin and Howard remarked how well their Yokohama tyres were performing over the rougher conditions and relived that they weren’t suffering form the punctures that many of the other drivers had.
With only the final 2 stages to go Kevin could ease his pace slightly and ease his car through the stages to claim his second win of the year back at the finish in Shrewsbury. Delighted with the way the day had gone, Kevin was full of praise for both his team and co-driver
“with Howard only stepping in at the last minute and with no testing before this event, i’m delighted with this win. As always Promax have produced a quick and ultra reliable car for me and i’m looking forward to next year already”
