Poor weather tests drivers at the EMCOS rally
The ‘Co-ordsport Stages 2010’ EMCOS rally over the weekend saw driver Matthew Green take first place with co-driver Louise Sworn in their Subaru Impreza at the popular Down Ampney airfield near Cirencester in Gloucestershire. The rally was extremely well organised with great feedback from attendees.
Despite a deluge of rain arriving half-way through the first stage, Matthew and Louise won with a total time of 65 minutes 36 seconds; 40 seconds clear of Eric Weaver and Andrew Sankey in their Darrian T9.
The poor weather tested the competitors’ skills throughout the day, causing chaos, with most finishing with some panel damage. By the end there were probably around two thirds of the original 70 cars still running.
With a hat-trick of wins, driver Gary Le Coadou and Paul Hollingham missed out on a fourth win in their Toyota Celica GT4 after pulling out due to a lost tooth on the input shaft. The tough conditions were highlighted after witnessing dozens of damaged cars being winched onto trailers in the service area at the end of the rally.
Co-ordSport would like to congratulate Matthew and Louise on their win; which was Louise’s first rally.
