FWD Challenge – Co-ordSport Bonus Scheme for 2003

A new front-wheel drive bonus scheme will be introduced to next year’s BTRDA Rally Series and the overall victor will win a drive in a Grp N Subaru Impreza, prepared by Morgan Motorsport.

The Co-ordSport Bonus Scheme, in association with Yokohama, will be open to all 1600cc rally cars regsitered to Grp N specification before January 1, 1993. Registration will be £300 for drivers and £50 for co-drivers.

Minor modifications will be permitted (see below) and there will be awards for jnior, novice, ladies and expert drivers. Competitors over 40 years of age will be eligible for an ‘Old Codgers’ award.

“We hope the rules we have set will make the bonus scheme a cheap championship for drivers of all levels and the specification of the cars should make them very reliable,” said championship co-ordinator Paul Benning.

The Co-ordSport Bonus Scheme is the latest entry-level rally championship to join British rallying. Benning, however, doesn’t seem to think rival series like the 205 Challenge and the Vauxhall Challenge will suffer becuse of his new initiative.

“We’re only making 30 entries available, which is less than half of those in the 205 Challenge, and I think the majority of the drivers we’ll attract will be those that are already taking part in the BTRDA, ” Benning added.

Ten championship points will be awarded to the highest placed driver on each rally. with the remaining points reducing by one point increments down to tenth place.

Co-ordSport Bonus Scheme permitted modifications:

  • Use of a non-plated slip differential
  • Fitting of a camber adjustable lower track control arm
  • Fitting of a rose-jointed gear linkage
  • Use of an inline induction kit
  • Small modifications to cylinder head
  • Exhausts may be ‘free’ from the manifolds backwards
  • Control Yokohama tyres must be used
  • Rear brake pressure regulator may be fitted
  • Brake and fuel lines may be internal
  • Upgraded front and rear brakes from another car in the same range
