At 14, Peter was a keen cyclist (Clifton Cycling Club), but he got his first experience of a motorised vehicle – he and school pals acquired an old Vespa scooter.

It was kept at Peter’s home in Don Avenue, York. Peter and school friends – Adrian Witty, Graham Perry and Geoff ?Smith? used to push it to Hob Moor Common, and ride it “off-road” – he was sold.

He still enjoyed his push-bike, cycling from York to Blackpool carrying camping gear, to visit a pen-pal, but he was fascinated by motors, and still is!
