For racing drivers, Winter is hibernation season, as they recharge their batteries and prepare for another year of speed, excitement and fight for victory. For Moh Ritson, however, time off has been at a premium, as he juggles school work and media commitments ahead of his 2020 campaign.

Back in January, Moh visited Tockwith Motorsports (TMS) to host a karting morning at the team’s base in North Yorkshire, where members of local television station, Leeds TV, braved the greasy and treacherous track, thanks to the drizzle, cold temperatures and wind that greeted them as they jumped into their karts (click on the image to view the report from Leeds TV).

Moh and the Leeds TV team struck up a relationship after developing a rapport during a previous event at the 17-year-old’s school, Woodhouse Grove, where pupils were wowed by the presence of Moh’s Ginetta G50. There, Moh and members of the TMS team showcased the car, spoke at length about the technology behind it and advised wannabe racing drivers on how they can turn their dream into a reality.

After staying in touch and wanting to tell more of Moh’s evolving story and share his lofty career ambitions, what better place to meet than the place where it all began?

Cameras poised around the circuit, with dashcams also placed on drivers’ heads, there was no place to hide as the lights went out, as Moh taught the crew how to drive in anger – even if the professional driver was the first to spin!

Moh spoke about how the day unfolded: “I thought it went brilliantly; I really enjoyed it and I hope everyone else did as well. The conditions were damp, which obviously made it difficult, but it was good fun nevertheless.

“After we took the chequered flag and dried off, we chatted, poking fun at those who made more trips into the barriers than others – even if I spun more than most, to be honest! – which made for a relaxed environment!

“Once the rain stopped, we ventured outside once again and I took my place in the driver’s seat of a Porsche Carrera GTS for the final part of the interview. SON Prestige, a company that was generous enough to lend us the car for the day, was fantastic in letting me drive one of its luxurious cars and I can’t thank them enough.”

Media spotlight and attention is an active – and times, intense – part of professional motorsport, but it also acts as a vital conduit between driver and audience, one that can be used to a driver’s advantage, as Moh explained: “For me, media is an essential part of being a motor racing driver, as it’s the best channel for me to spread my messages, whether that be news or results, as it puts me in the public eye.

“There is also responsibility on my shoulders to deliver for the businesses that I partner with. Of course, I want to achieve honours for myself, but the companies that I work with deserve the prestige and adulation that comes with success. It’s also pivotal that I provide them with the content, stories and experiences which they can utilise to bolster their own marketing platforms and to contribute towards their growth targets.”
