2003 Welsh National Rally Championship Preview
The Welsh Association of Motor Clubs have confirmed the appointment of the new co-ordinator for the Competition Car Insurance Welsh National Rally Championship 2003 just ahead of the first round of the series.
Gwyn Williams will take over from Steve Gregg at the helm of the premier Welsh series. Williams, from Ebbw Vale in South Wales, having been an active competitor in the co-driver seat is well aware of what a competitor demands from their rallying.
“I know the task ahead will be challenging, with so little time before the first rally. I aim to settle in slowly and spend much time observing the series and have no major plans to change the structure of the series in the short term. Steve is a very tough act to follow, having co-ordinated the series for a few years. He has commanded the respect and friendship of many who have contested the Welsh series previously.”
Gwyn will be attending the Welsh Association of Motor Club’s Annual dinner (Saturday 25th January 2003) as his first appointment in his new role.
“The relaxed surrounding of the dinner should allow me to meet some old and new competitors and I am really looking forward to what should be an exciting new time for the championship.”
With defending Welsh National Rally Champion, Mark Perrott, confirmed as the first to register for the 2003 series in his Escort World Rally Car, others are sure to follow his lead.
“Mark is a very determined driver and it is great to know he will return in 2003. His enthusiasm to return and defend his title, shows what a good championship we have to offer.”
The first round of the Competition Car Insurance Welsh National Rally Championship 2003, the Wyedean Forest Rally, will be based at the Chepstow Racecourse, with the rally running up into the Forest of Dean on Saturday 8th February 2003.
